The name “Thar” already sparks excitement among off-road lovers, and now Mahindra has taken things up a notch. At the Freedom NU event in Mumbai, the company didn’t just showcase concepts—it showed its vision for the future. And one of the stars of the show was the Mahindra Vision SXT, a rugged pickup truck that blends Thar’s iconic spirit with a new sense of utility and style.
From Vision T to Vision SXT – A Big Step Forward
The Vision SXT draws its DNA from the Vision T concept, which itself is a glimpse of the upcoming electric Thar. But while the Vision T is all about adventure in a more traditional SUV form, the SXT dares to stand apart with its pickup truck body style. Behind the C-pillars, you find a purposeful load area—complete with two spare wheels—that instantly tells you this machine is built for more than just good looks.
Design That Means Business
One look at the Vision SXT and you know it’s not here to blend in. The thick black grille with vertical slats gives it a strong face, while the vertically stacked LED headlamps add a futuristic edge. The bonnet is sculpted with aggression, the bumper is detailed with lower air intakes and skid plates, and the muscular wheel arches add serious off-road intent.
Its body carries sharp creases, dual-tone orange and black paint, tall pillars, roof rails, and side steps—features that make it look ready for both adventure trails and city streets. But it’s the rear that seals the deal: vertical LED tail lamps, a chunky bumper with a skid plate, and that unmistakable SXT badging along the sides and back.
Built on the NU IQ Platform
Like the Vision T, the SXT rides on Mahindra’s new NU IQ platform, designed for vehicles between 3,990 mm and 4,320 mm in length. It’s a platform built to be flexible, accommodating various body styles while offering impressive interior space—up to 937 mm of second-row legroom, 1,404 mm of shoulder room, and a ground clearance of up to 227 mm.
This means you’re not just getting a tough, capable machine—you’re also getting comfort and practicality for everyday use.
What’s Next for the Vision SXT?
The NU IQ platform will enter production by 2027, with the electric five-door Thar (Vision T) expected to arrive first. The Vision SXT, if it reaches production, could become a lifestyle pickup truck that offers the utility of a workhorse without compromising on style or off-road capability.
It’s still too early to say exactly what the production model will keep or change from this concept. But judging by what Mahindra revealed today, the Vision SXT is more than just a design experiment—it’s a clear statement that the Thar brand is ready to branch out in exciting new ways.
